Rivain

A lush, coastal land on the northeastern shores of Thedas. Rivain is famed for its vibrant culture of seafaring and exotic goods. It serves a vital role in maritime trade, linking ships traveling through the Boeric Ocean and along the coast towards Antiva.

Rivain is proudly independent since -44 Ancient. The region is known for its openness to different traditions and being home to a unique blend of beliefs, a practical melting pot of cultures.

Environment

Rivain's coastline features warm, sandy beaches and busy natural harbors bustling with trading ships and fishing boats. The tropical climate keeps the weather humid and warm year-round. Intense seasonal storms occasionally batter coastal towns, but communities are well-accustomed to quickly rebuilding in the aftermath.

Inland, dense jungles are rife with exotic wildlife and plants prized for rare dyes, fragrant spices, or powerful medicinal properties. Straying from established paths can be dangerous, however, due to predators lurking in these jungles.

Culture & Society

Rivaini people are known for their maritime skill and easygoing hospitality. They also hold a deep natural respect for other cultures, being an accepting sort.

Music and dance are integral parts of daily life. Intricate, brightly-colored tattoos also hold significant cultural meaning in Rivain, representing achievements or clan identity.

Communities rely heavily on fishing and trade for survival. Villages tend to be led by elders who resolve disputes and organize their people. Though welcoming to visitors and traders, Rivaini fiercely guard their independence, weary of foreign rule after years of the Tevinter Imperium looming over them.

Politics

Rivain is decentralized, lacking any single ruler or unified government. Authority rests in the hands of independent towns, their local elders or chieftains manage their communities and cooperate with each other when interests align.

Piracy and smuggling remain significant challenges for certain ports, small-scale conflicts occasionally erupting when independent villages are forced to clash with aggressive seafarers attempting to abuse Rivain for profit.
